Digital Entertainment Platform
Online games are created to support a marketing campaign or to make a website more “sticky”. A digital entertainment platform is a virtual world that children will visit day after day, and month after month.
Consumer brands create entertainment platforms so they can talk to their customers; kids don’t want to be interrupted with adverts, they want to have fun. Our entertainment platforms are like 6 month adverts that your customers choose to watch. Isn’t that why Procter & Gamble created the soap opera?
The Wizard of Oz, and other beloved entertainment brands, create digital platforms to capture their community and to create new virtual item and subscription revenue streams. It’s not just existing brands, new entertainment properties are choosing to launch online first because it’s more cost effective, and more importantly, launching online is less risky that traditional channels – TV, comics, and film.
Why is it less risky? An online platform can be live in less than 6 months and they’re data driven. Analytics show precisely what the children like and what they don’t like, so that the product can be iterated to quickly converge on a successful formula.

Our research team are instrumental in our own games, but also work with people like Club Penguin, where we helped Disney understand what turns a player into a payer, and Turner, where we helped them design a new transmedia IP. Game Design
Unlike traditional game design, almost all elements of virtual world design should be done with a business objective in mind: reducing the cost to acquire a customer, increasing viral, reducing churn, driving payment conversion. The design has to create the motivations that result in behaviors that drive those business objectives. Of course, different types of players have different motivations.
