Dubit Platform: Simple, Customizable, & Proven

We’ve been creating virtual worlds for 10 years. Nearly every world has the same core set of features and game engines. Rebuilding these for each project is a waste of time – you need to focus on what’s going to make your world fun, not building friends list and payment gateways.

Four years ago we set out to build the best virtual world platform delivered through Adobe Flash. We’re making this platform available for developers or commission us for your own bespoke build.

We’ll know when we’ve done our job when non-technical creatives can apply their talents to the design and build of virtual worlds. Creating a world should not be a programmers job, and with the right tools a team of creatives can build something special.

We hope the Dubit Platform Editor is the first big step towards that reality. Today, using the Dubit Platform Editor, anyone can build a virtual world in a matter of minutes. It’s just a case of importing the artwork and positioning the graphics!

It doesn’t stop with graphics. Using our proprietary GAML scripting language it’s possible to quickly develop quests, narratives, branching conversations, puzzles and games. Persistence is baked right into GAML, so when a player finishes a quest, GAML wont forget.

Subconsciously or not, we tend to split our purchases into categories, be that entertainment, identity, self-improvement, and so on. It turns that, most young people have a larger budget for their identity than entertainment – if you can get your players to care how their avatar looks, in the same way they care how they look in the real world, they’ll spend more on their virtual clothes.

For this reason, the style of your avatars is one of the most important decisions you will ever make about your world. So we’ve built two powerful avatar engines, the Layering Engine, and the Cutout Engine.

February saw our 10 year anniversary; that’s a lot of years creating virtual worlds! Since we started we’ve designed our fair share of rooms. If there’s one thing we’ve learnt, its that rooms need to be more than pretty background images.

Players want to be able to interact with the room, click on objects, pick up items, or inspect them. Thats why we created our GAML scripting language so that designers can easily attach interactive behaviours to events in the room.

Our rendering engine supports 2D, 2.5D, and top down perspectives. Sounds, lighting effects, collision areas, and parallax scrolling effects can be applied.

Watch how rooms are quickly laid out with the Dubit Platform Editor.

Virtual worlds have many similar features, from friends list through to payment gateways. We’ve turned these core features into a suite of components so that worlds created on the Dubit Platform can be up and running quickly, with more time for making the world fun!

Included in the Platform are: registration process, avatar creation, shops, friend lists, inventories, experience points, trophies, skills, quests, mini game API’s, instant match, chat filtering, safe chat, clothing CMS, customizable user rooms, moderation tools, virtual currency, micropayment support, payment gateway integration, and more.

So that you can focus on your content we’ve created tools for designing rooms, quests, and adventures. The last major distraction is the hosting, so we’ve moved our Platform into the Amazon EC2 cloud, and taken care of that problem too.

You still host your website, art work, music, and static files. But the complex real-time multiuser server, graphical rendering server, web services, and attribute persistence databases run in our scalable Amazon EC2 cloud. Tested to support over 40,000 concurrent players, with over 12,000 concurrents in real world deployments.

Hosting runs from as little as $0.02 per unique user per month.
